BBC Writersroom: Drop-in session

Development

Come along and meet the BBC Writersroom team based in Northern Ireland in an informal drop-in session.

Working with writers across the UK from their bases in London, Salford, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast, the BBC Writersroom seeks out and develops both new and more experienced writers, running targeted Writers' Groups, supporting talent initiatives, and offering career and script advice.

Come along and meet Heather Larmour and Cathy Quinn from the BBC Writersroom, who will be joined by local writer Kat Woods to answer your questions about the development programmes offered by the Writersroom and their writer resources.

Please note, that any income or donation received from ticket sales for this event supports The Crescent Arts Centre and Belfast Book Festival.

Heather Larmour is an Assistant Commissioner working across both BBC Drama Commissioning and the Writersoom, to source, champion and develop new writing talent and to support the development and production of the Northern Ireland drama slate. She began her career in BBC Northern Ireland’s Drama department where she was an Audio Drama Producer, before moving to work in TV at Kudos where she was a Development Executive and most recently a Script Editor across several of the company’s productions.

Cathy Quinn has been the Development Coordinator for BBC Writersroom NI since August 2021. She has worked in the BBC for 10 years and was previously involved in producing various Radio Ulster current affairs and magazine programmes. Her real passion, however, is drama, but only on stage or screen! Originally from just outside Omagh, she completed a Masters in Creative Writing at QUB in 2010, and hopes to encourage more people from rural and underserved communities of Northern Ireland to apply for creative opportunities.

Kat Woods is a writer and director from Co. Fermanagh. She is interested in staging works that redefine the poverty narrative, shifting from the negative stereotype that exists.  She is represented by London based Divergent Talent and is published by Samuel French.  She’s a BBC Belfast Voices and Drama Room alumnus. Her work has been performed across the UK, Ireland, Finland and the USA. Kat is currently under commission with Tinderbox Theatre, the MAC Belfast, The Abbey Theatre, and in TV development with Out of Orbit productions and Element Pictures.
