In celebration of the 80th birthday of renowned poet and national treasure Michael Longley, come and listen to the man himself reading poetry and in conversation, alongside readings of his work by students and colleagues, and a musical performance of songs in response to Michael’s poems by Duke Special.
Michael’s poetry is deeply meditative, emotional and at times provocative. He delves into the poetry of Homer to cast light upon contemporary concerns, while at the same time delights in the natural world and the beauty of language.
He has published eleven books of poetry, most recently Angel Hill. He has been awarded many prizes, including the T S Eliot and the Yakamochi Medal, a CBE and the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry. His pamphlet A Stream’s Tattle will be published this month.
