We are delighted to welcome the Poet Laureate of the United States, Tracy K Smith, to the Belfast Book Festival.
Tracy is the author of four poetry collections, including Life on Mars, which won the Pulitzer Prize and Wade in the Water, which was shortlisted for the T S Eliot Prize.
Her poetry is both lyrical and political, combining beautiful, serene language with an undercurrent of the unknown, which is dark, vast and haunted. Tackling themes from human desire and grief, to race and faith, this is a poet who is inquisitive, transcendent and luminous.
Tracy is also the recipient of the Academy of American Poets Fellowship, the Cave Canem Prize and a James Laughlin Award. Her memoir, Ordinary Light, was a finalist for the National Book Award.
This event is in partnership with the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry, Queen’s University.
