Both Wendy Erskine and Nicole Flattery have burst onto the literary scene in the last year, with debut collections published by The Stinging Fly being picked up by UK publishers for further release. Writing in deft, wry voices about themes of love, regret, sorrow and desire, with characters as diverse as reclusive rock-icons, lonely women and beleaguered students, these two writers will haunt your thoughts long after hearing them. Come and sink into the world of these stories, cruel and tragic, yet compelling and wonderful.
Wendy Erskine’s work has been published in The Stinging Fly, Stinging Fly Stories and Female Lines: New Writing by Women from Northern Ireland (New Island Books) and is forthcoming in Being Various: New Irish Short Stories (Faber and Faber), Winter Papers and on BBC Radio 4. Sweet Home is her first collection, published in 2018 by The Stinging Fly Press and in 2019 by Picador.
Nicole Flattery’s work has been published in The Irish Times, The Dublin Review, The White Review, Winter Papers and The Stinging Fly. She won The White Review Short Story Prize in 2017, and is a recipient of a Next Generation Artists’ Award from the Arts Council. Show Them a Good Time is her first collection, published by The Stinging Fly Press and Bloomsbury in 2019.
