Poetry
Join Bebe Ashley for a special preview of her second poetry collection Harbour Doubts.
Bringing together meditations on language as mediated through sound, sign language, vision and film, this collection cements Bebe's reputation as a fearless experimenter in poetry.
To encourage audience members to learn British Sign Language for themselves, Deaflympics Gold Medalist Anthony Sinclair will also teach a short introduction to BSL. You’ll even learn some special vocabulary perfect to try out throughout Belfast Book Festival.
Bebe Ashley lives in Northern Ireland. Her debut collection Gold Light Shining was selected for Read Mór by the Arts Council of Ireland in 2022. In 2023, Bebe received the Ivan Juritz Prize for Creative Experiment (Text) and a Creative Practitioner Bursary from Belfast City Council. In 2024, Bebe received the British Council Fellowship for Bundanon, Australia. Bebe’s second collection Harbour Doubts will be published by Banshee Press in July 2025.
