Kevin Quinn: Robert Frost, Twenty Poems

Poetry

Literary Lunch

Poet and critic Kevin Quinn introduces and reads a selection of poems by Robert Frost.

If the English-speaking world has a favourite poet it is probably Robert Frost. If there is one thing that accounts for this popularity, it is most likely the engaging tone of much of his poetry. He contrived always to sound like a man talking good sense to people of good sense. This talk will illustrate the formal range of his poetry, from short, self-contained lyrics to poems of mid length like After Apple-Picking and Mending Wall, to his longer poems, what he called his “novels”, such as The Death of the Hired Man and Home Burial.  Frost’s often anguished, private life is drawn on to illuminate the poems.

A selection of Kevin Quinn’s poems can be read at kevinquinn.co.uk
