Luke Harding: Ukraine & the New World Order

Non-Fiction

When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Guardian journalist Luke Harding was in Kyiv. Invasion: Russia’s Bloody War and Ukraine’s Fight for Survival (Guardian Faber, 2022) was the first book of reportage from the frontline of the war, recording the initial shock and panic, the grim reality of the conflict, and the human stories behind the headlines.

The return of Donald Trump has seen the US form an alliance with Moscow against Kyiv. Why?

Join us for an unmissable conversation about Ukraine and the latest developments in world politics.

Luke Harding is an award-winning foreign correspondent with The Guardian. His latest book, Invasion: Russia's Bloody War and Ukraine's Fight for Survival, was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize and Peterson Literary Prize. Between 2007 and 2011 he was The Guardian's Moscow bureau chief; the Kremlin expelled him from the country in the first case of its kind since the cold war.

Since 2022 he has been based in Kyiv and London. Luke is the author of Mafia State and co-author of WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy, The Liar: The Fall of Jonathan Aitken (also nominated for the Orwell Prize) and The Snowden Files, Collusion and Shadow State. Two of Luke's books, The Fifth Estate and Snowden, have been made into films. His book about the murder of Alexander Litvinenko, A Very Expensive Poison, was adapted in 2019 by Lucy Prebble into a stage play at The Old Vic theatre in London.
